The Story Of The Two PB Loving Best Friends Behind Every Pintful
Growing up, I was obsessed with peanut butter!
Running around the neighborhood, biking everywhere, and eating peanut butter with almost everything.
Some of my early concoctions (some still eaten today) included a bowl of peanut butter and chocolate chips, yogurt and peanut butter bagels, and peanut butter milk.
However, my all-time favorite is a classic lunch staple, a PB sandwich. Yes, that’s right, no jelly! Solely because I needed more room for peanut butter. 😉
The Nutty Obsession Continues
Growing older and quite frankly larger, these concoctions continued to persist.
During college, my go-tos continued to be peanut butter and yogurt bagels, and cereal with loads of peanut butter on my spoon. I even created a new concoction that my college friends know and love, peanut butter fluff.
Peanut butter fluff is a fat spoonful of peanut butter mixed with Cool Whip. We would spread this fluffy frosting treat, on everything. From toast and bagels to waffles, pancakes, and cookies. And when we were feeling “healthy” the occasional banana.
Caught The Health Bug
Now I mentioned growing larger, and I didn’t mean taller…
The Health Transformation
I wasn’t obese, but I wasn’t as healthy as I wanted to be. Starring at my 250lb self in the mirror, made me feel unhappy with my body. The sudden realization of who I was, compared to who I wanted to be, triggered a change.
I started going the gym and found myself enjoying exercise. While I began to realize the importance of exercise, I also began to care about the foods I was putting into my body.
And sadly, but slowly stopped eating foods I had loved for so long: ice cream, waffles, fried chicken, and worst of all, peanut butter.
Health to the Next Level
In 2017, I started getting very serious about health and wellness by taking my journey to the next level and becoming a certified sports nutritionist.
Many diets that I tried included only intaking clean sources of protein, vegetables, and trying to eat only natural, unprocessed foods. However, there was one major flaw to ALL of them; the diets didn’t allow for peanut butter.
And I couldn’t stand that!
But after looking at all the peanut butter nutrition labels, it made sense…
The good, the bad, and just plain unhealthy peanut butter
Loads of added sugar, hydrogenated oils, and preservatives are most of the ingredients in peanut butter!
If you look at the nutritional label, you can even see they can’t legally call themselves peanut butter because of how much-added crap is in it. As a result, I decided not to cut out peanut butter, but to switch to a natural kind. Or at least what I thought was “natural”…
And boom! The same disappointment, unhealthy peanut butter. Added sugar, hydrogenated/palm oil, and preservatives to keep up their flavor and no-stir label. 🙁
Something Had To Be Done About Unhealthy Peanut Butter
With zero thought of giving up eating peanut butter on my mind, I decided it was time to make my own.
After a quick Google search and dusting off a small 1 cup food processor, my first homemade batch of peanut butter was ready to taste. A few days later, (yes, that’s how quickly I go through peanut butter) I started to get creative and began experimenting with added protein.
It didn’t stop there.
The Concoctions Continue
I soon began mixing in other added ingredients, proteins, and peanuts, until I found my perfect combination.
That perfect peanut butter not only had the added protein I needed but tasted exactly like or even better than any of the other peanut butters.
And unlike other natural peanut butters, I didn’t need to stir it! Never having to end up with a watery goop or an extremely dry spoonful.
Fast forward a couple of months; and you could find me eating almost a full 16oz pint (Hence, why we are called Pintful) of the homemade peanut butter, every day.
Eventually, I made the upgrade to an industrial blender to not only satisfy my taste buds but also because I kept breaking my Mom’s food processors. Sorry, Mom!
Then it hit me! A sudden hunch. (Hawaii beach, where hunch occurred)
Why isn’t anyone else making healthy and delicious peanut butter, like mine?
After digging into the peanut butter industry, I learned that over 75% of US citizens believe that peanut butter is healthy.
We’ve all been deceived by peanut butter!
When in reality, almost all peanut butters contained ingredients that can lead to obesity, heart disease, and even are proven to cause cancer such as processed sugar, artificial colors and sweeteners, hydrogenated oils, and preservatives.
Digging even further, I found there were not any kinds of peanut butter with high-protein and no added sugars, oils, or preservatives. With that, I realized that my homemade peanut butter could fit into almost any diet, from vegan and Weight Watchers to Atkins, and keto.
I knew almost immediately; this healthy peanut butter could break the old unhealthy peanut butter mold, and potentially change the snack food industry.
And more importantly, have a positive impact on lives and health!
Something had to change about peanut butter, and I couldn’t let other peanut butter lovers feel guilty about or even worse stop eating their favorite snack like I did.
Release The Pintful
The next day, I called up my peanut butter loving best friend, Sam and told him about my “nutty idea”.
Noticing my excitement and passion, not to mention all my crazy experiments with peanut butter, Sam ecstatically agreed to join me, no questions asked.
Maybe, he just said yes to shut me up. 😉
I quickly whipped up a pint and got him to taste and boom… The deal was sealed! And our peanut buttery partnership was founded.
Early PB Taste Testing
Starting with the name Pintful (as mentioned before I would eat a pint full of peanut butter daily) we started handing out to family and friends.
Our family loved it! But of course aren’t they supposed to say that! 😉
College friends loved it because it was free and tasted delicious.
Kids loved the taste. And Mom’s loved the health benefits.
Vegans and dieters loved the ingredients and how whole it was.
And fitness enthusiasts couldn’t get enough of our high-protein peanut butter.
The Pintful Party Begins
Everybody loved the peanut butter! So we knew we had to bring it to market somehow.
We started giving out samples, but being broke college students, we needed more support to help us share our delicious and healthy peanut butter.
So we decided to launch a Kickstarter! ?
The Kickstarter would allow for us to self-fund Pintful through pre-orders and be able to take Pintful into production.
And not to mention,
bringing Pintful to the masses would make a difference in their lives, similar to the difference it did in mine.
Pintful isn’t the sole reason for my health and wellness transformation by any means. However, it provided a mental break and allowed me to eat my favorite food while improving my health and performance.
Our story may have started because of trying to fit peanut butter in my diet.
And our goal may be to have a positive impact on all peanut butter lovers by providing them a no-stir peanut butter with the delicious taste and healthy nutrition, that even the strictest mothers are proud to endorse.
But our mission goes beyond just delicious healthy peanut butter.
Making A Difference Through Peanut Butter
We want to make a difference in the world, one pint at a time.
By providing a healthy peanut butter, we can start to combat childhood obesity, and help each child grow strong and healthy with 50% more natural plant-based protein.
By having no added sugars, preservatives, or oils and nothing artificial in our ingredients, we can help grow the new healthy trend in the snack food industry.
Kid Tested, And Mother Approved
With all the fancy marketing tactics and labels it’s difficult to tell what you can trust to feed yourself and others. Especially conscious Mothers with children who are usually responsible for the food their children eat.
By only using organic and sustainable additives, we can help reduce air pollution from pesticides/fertilizers and the need for the synthetic protein that comes from large slaughterhouses. And These natural foods also contribute to improving gut health which controls and effects the majority of your body’s functions.
The Perfect Peanut Butter
Pintful is the perfect peanut butter for every mother, child, athlete, vegan, or anyone that cares about what they are putting in their body.
